10 GIRLS WRESTLERS TO WATCH: WESTERN KANSAS 

ASHLEY ARROYO, DODGE CITY 


Arroyo placed second at 155 pounds in the Division I state tournament, losing by fall to Washburn Rural's Rebekah Smith in the final. Arroyo finished her sophomore season with a 22-2 mark. She will enter her junior season ranked No. 2 at 155 behind Washburn Rural's Jaliah Johnson.

CITORI BOSSERMAN, OAKLEY 

Bosserman claimed a Division II state championship at 101 pounds last season, defeating Fort Scott's Nicole Montojo by a 5-3 decision in the final. Bosserman finished 27-1 on the season. Her only loss was to Great Bend's Breckyn Elliott, but Bosserman won two of the three matches against Elliott on the season. Bosserman will enter her junior season ranked No. 1 at 101 in Division II. 

MIKYAH CAIN, OAKLEY 

Cain took third place in Division II at 109 pounds. She lost to champion Kendra Hurla from Rossville in the semifinal but bounced back to clinch third with a 2-1 decision over Hoisington's Emily Lovett, wrapping up a 25-5 season. Cain, a junior, is ranked No. 5 in the Division II 126-pound rankings. 


Kaydawn Haag

KAYDAWN HAAG, ELLIS 

Haag and Pratt's Livia Swift created quite the rivalry on the mat at the top of the Division II 143-pound class last year. Haag and Swift met four times on the season, going 2-2 against each other. Haag took a thrilling 11-8 decision over Swift in the sub-state final, but Swift returned the favor a week later in the state championship match, taking a 4-2 decision over Haag to notch her second straight state title. Haag finished her freshman season with a 29-4 record and handed Swift her only two losses of the season. Haag and Swift will likely meet for a few more showdowns this season. Swift is ranked No. 1 at 143 and Haag No. 2.

BELLE HERNANDEZ, GARDEN CITY 

Hernandez was the Division I runner-up at 126 pounds. She lost to undefeated Bre Ridgeway in the title match with a 6-0 decision. Hernandez finished the season with a 17-7 mark. She's ranked No. 2 at 126 in Division I behind Free State's Madyson Gray.

Lakin's Isabell Ortiz 
ISABELL ORTIZ, LAKIN 

Ortiz captured the Division II 115-pound title with a 5-0 decision over Alexis Allen of Independence, wrapping up a 29-4 season. Ortiz pinned her first two opponents at state on her way to the championship. Ortiz, who also placed at state in 2019, is top ranked at 115 pounds heading into her senior season as she looks to defend her crown.

JOSIAH ORTIZ, LAKIN

Josiah Ortiz placed fifth at 109 pounds last year as a sophomore. She defeated Chanute's Reese Clements with an 8-0 decision to clinch fifth place, finishing off a 26-2 season. It was the second state medal for Oritz who took fourth as a freshman. She's ranked fifth at 109 pounds heading into her junior year.

MARISSA PORSCH, HOXIE 

Porsch put together a 43-2 record last year and took third place at 132 pounds in Class 3-2-1A. She lost by fall in the semifinals to Mission Valley's Hope Blake but bounced back in the third-place match with a pin of Silver Lake's Ellington Hogle. Porsch, a senior, is ranked third at 138 pounds in Division II behind Mulvane's Kammie Schanz and Baldwin's Audrey Darnell.

BRE RIDGEWAY, GREAT BEND 

In an All-Western Athletic Conference final at 126 pounds, Ridgeway controlled the match against Garden City's Belle Hernandez, taking the championship with a 6-0 decision to complete a 39-0 season. Ridegeway earned a pin over Gardner Edgerton's Kaidyn Andrews in 37 seconds in the state quarterfinal and then took a 9-3 decision over Emporia's Madelynn Griffin in the semifinal. Ridegeway is the  favorite to win again at 126 pounds, where she is ranked No. 1. 

SARAH ZIMMERMAN, HAYS 

A two-time state placer, Zimmerman is coming off a state runner-up showing at 109 pounds as a sophomore. Zimmerman pinned Bashor-Linwood's Olivia O'Donnell in the semis to reach the championship match. She dropped an 8-5 decision to Wichita North's Dialeen French in the final. Zimmerman went 27-5 on the season. She's top ranked at 109.
