Minor changes among No. 1s in latest KBCA rankings

Andover Central boys, Wamego girls move to top of their respective classes

With a win over previous No. 1 Andover last Friday, Kobe Smith and Andover Central moved to the top of the Class 5A rankings this week in the latest KBCA poll.
While several classifications saw plenty of movement within their top 10s, only two saw a new No. 1 emerge in the latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association rankings.

Last week's Class 5A boys No. 1 Andover suffered a pair of losses to ranked teams – previous No. 1 Maize and No. 3 Andover Central. The losses dropped the Trojans from the ranks of the unbeaten and the No. 1 spot, falling to No. 8.

Cross-town rival Andover Central, which won 56-49 over Andover last Friday, replaced the Trojans atop the 5A rankings, leap-frogging Highland Park, which fell 79-67 to Topeka West last Friday. Central is now 8-0 on the season going into mid-season tournament week.

The only other new No. 1 came on the girls' side as Bishop Miege dropped out of the top position in the Class 4A rankings after a 57-43 loss to rival St. Thomas Aquinas, the Class 5A No. 1. The Stags fell to No. 3 with Wamego (9-0) replacing the Stags in the No. 1 spot and Wellington sliding up to No. 2.

The remainder of the No. 1s stayed the same – Free State (6A boys), Shawnee Mission West (6A girls), St. Thomas Aquinas (5A girls), Eudora (4A boys), Hesston (3A boys), Hugoton (3A girls), Hillsboro (2A boys), Sterling (2A girls), South Gray (1A D-I boys), Burlingame (1A D-I girls), Hanover (1A D-II boys) and Central Plains (1A D-II girls).

A handful of No. 1s are on collision courses to meet at mid-season tournaments this week with Hesston and Hillsboro in the same boys field at the Hillsboro Trojan Classic and Hugoton and Sterling in the same girls field at the Sterling Invitational.
