As the stretch run begins for Kansas high school basketball, a familiar face sits atop the Class 6A boys poll in the latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association rankings.
 
Perennial powerhouse Blue Valley Northwest, which captured five state titles from 2013-19, has returned to the top of the rankings, The Huskies, 12-1 and riding a 10-game winning streak after suffering its only loss to rival Blue Valley North in mid-Decemeber, supplanted season-long No. 1 Free State when the KBCA released its updated rankings on Tuesday.
 
Free State, also 12-1, suffered its first loss of the season last Saturday, falling to Lee's Summit (Mo.) 60-48 at the 810 Varsity Showcase at Lee's Summit West. 
 
Only one other classification saw a new No. 1 named this week.
 
In Class 4A boys, Eudora returned to the top spot, switching places with Bishop Miege. The Cardinals (11-2) had dropped from No. 1 two weeks ago after losing in the Tonganoxie Invitational Tournament, but reclaimed the top spot in Class 4A after Miege lost two of its past three games.
 
The Stags fell 62-48 to Blue Valley West last Friday and then, after beating St. Michael the Archangel (Mo.) at the 810 Showcase, lost on Monday to Van Horn (Mo.) 70-62 to fall to 12-4 on the season.
 
The remainder of the No. 1s stayed the same – Kapaun Mt. Carmel in 5A, Royal Valley in 3A, Hillsboro in 2A, Olpe in 1A Division I and Hanover in 1A Division II.
 
There were no changes in the girls' No. 1s with Olathe North (6A), Salina Central (5A), Wellington (4A), Silver Lake (3A), Sterling (2A), Hodgeman County (1A D-I) and Central Plains (1A D-II) all retaining their top rankings.
