Coach’s comment

“What makes Anna special is her work ethic, she was always in the gym and always wanted to get better,” Seaman coach Matt Tinsley said. “Every year, there was a part of her game that she had to improve on and she did that. What sets her apart from everyone else is she has a passion for the game, a desire for that and you can tell that by the way she plays. She has her fingerprints on everything. I said it at our banquet, she did everything but drive our bus to the games. She impacted on the defensive end, the offensive end – she has the total game.”

Coach’s comment

“You watch her on the floor and I know she’s not the fastest girl in the gym but she looks a step quicker because of her understanding or the game of basketball, what we’re trying to do and what other teams are trying to do,” Centralia coach Dusty Thompson said. “That’s what sets her apart. There are always girls that can shoot the ball well or do this well or that well. Just her being able to see the floor and understand … it’s her basketball IQ. When she was a sophomore, she had to score, we didn’t have a ton of scorers. To get her out of that to a ‘You’re still going to get your shots up and you’ll get better looks if you get other people involved’ mindset was big. Her scoring total went down like three-quarters of a point, but her assists went up two and a half. When we talk about what she did different this year to me she settled into she didn’t have to do as much to get as much.”

Coach’s comment

“This is so simple, but she’s just so special to this community, so special to me,” Wellington coach Eric Adams said. “Val is a vibrant person. When she walks into wherever – the gym, the classroom – she just always has that smile. She doesn’t take anything too seriously and just goes about her business. You could see it on the floor. She didn’t get all riled up. … On the court, she got stronger physically and took more leadership her junior and senior years vocally. Her freshman and sophomore year, she relied a lot more on going to the rim, but then she really worked on her jump shot and was a very accurate 3-point shooter for us. She was more of a double assassin for us her senior year. You play off and she’ll knock it down. You try to crowd her, she’ll get you on her hip and blow by you.”

Coach’s comment

“My job with this group has been more about putting confidence in them and being a positive as I can with the kids,” Adams said. “Being truthful and not in an arrogant way, I was up front with them, saying we have the talent. We have the talent to do this. You need to take the floor with that attitude. That’s all I was doing these last couple of years. There’s no secret to it. It’s just been those little things you do as a coach, trying to put them in the best spot both physically and mentally.”
