Coach’s comment

“Boston is the kind of player every coach wishes the could coach,” Sterling coach Derek Schneider said. “Despite his limitless abilities on the floor, Boston comes to practice every single day and grinds with full effort in every drill we do. He is also completely coachable, listening to everything our coaching staff tells him and answering simple, ‘Yes sir.’ Then he goes out and does exactly what he’s supposed to do. I would put his combination of size, skill and effort against any other player in Kansas.”

Coach’s comment

“Kelan’s ability to shoot the basketball is probably what separates him from everyone else and makes him tough to defend,” Bonner Springs coach Drew Gruver said. “His ability to knock down shots and score was huge for us this year.  He had the ability to make plays for us both on the offensive end and defensive end of the floor. But I think what makes him such a great player and asset to our team is that he is a great teammate. He only cares about doing what is best for the team and doing whatever it takes to help the team win.  He understands the game better than anyone I have coached. He is an extension of the coaching staff on the floor. He seems to always make the right decision and play. He lets the game come to him and gets his teammates involved. He makes his teammates better when he is on the floor. His ability to pass the ball at the right time led to a lot of easy shots and baskets for our team this year. He is also a very good defender. He was able to defend any position on the floor for us this year and made a lot of great defensive plays for us.”

Coach’s comment

“His ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor is what separates him from most,” Collegiate assistant coach Ron Watson said. “When he wants to guard, he GUARDS. When he wants to score, he SCORES. Whatever is needed that night for our team, he can provide no problem. Every night when he steps on the floor you have the opportunity to be successful and for 28 games this season we had that opportunity. Every coach wishes they had a player like him.”

Coach’s comment

“Reece is a flat-out winner,” Mill Valley coach Kurt Bangle said. “He makes winning plays nearly every time, either on offense or defense. A fierce competitor, he rarely had an ‘off’ game or even a bad practice. He always wanted to win, even against his best friends. His records and stats speak for themselves, but some of his best attributes have been that he was our hardest worker and not only a great offensive threat but would also take on the opposing team’s best player, no matter their position. Everywhere we have been, he is consistently the best player on the floor and stands out in his effort and intensity.”

Coach’s comment

“I’m just really proud of our players and happy for them,” Olerich said of bringing home Olathe North’s first-ever state title. “We thought this year’s team had another level they could get to and they certainly did at the perfect time. The past four years, I thought we played our best basketball to get to the state tournament. But I thought we put it all together (at state) and we needed to. The quarterfinal, semifinal and final were against three excellent teams, coaches and programs. We knew we’d have to be at our best and it just worked out that our best was good enough this year.”
