Coach's comment

"To be the seventh straight quarterback since 2009 that's played in a state championship game, I know that's something in the offseason that weighed on him," Miege coach Jon Holmes said. "You saw him motivated the whole offseason and all summer and how he played this year. You talk about the names we've had before him, he's right there in the conversation with those guys. ... What amazes me most with him is that we felt we saw everybody's best shot all year and Mac knew the pressure that came with being our starting quarterback this year and he lived up to it every single week."

Coach's comment

"I've told our guys that a lot of time football is played 90% from the neck up and Isaac's probably got 110% of that," Axtell coach Eric Detweiler said. "He's not the biggest kid on the field by any means, but he just gets everybody in the right spots at the right time. He probably exceeded what I expected he would do. I never thought he would break the records he did, but he's just a headsy kid who never got nervous on the field. “I enjoyed Dylan as a person probably more than anything,” Derby coach Brandon Clark said. “He’s a great kid. He’s got a great heart. He’s got good work ethic and he’s just an all-around great person. To add his talent and speed on top of that has just made it an amazing four years to be able to coach him. In our final game, I think we played four guys at quarterback and he was one of them. He was doing that with no prep work because he was out all week with an injury. He can do it all."

"As one of the top linebackers in the league, as a coaching staff we knew he was going to be really good on that side of the ball," Nemaha Central coach Michael Glatczak said. "I think he far exceeded his expectations on the offensive side. I knew he would carry the load, but not necessarily to that extent. It was definitely awesome as a coach. In a short-yardage situation we knew we could bank on him getting a yard or two or whatever we needed and he could also bust out that 50-yard run."

Coach's comment

"His skill level was much better his senior year than in previous years and it didn’t just happen," Maize coach Gary Guzman said. "He worked on it. He never stopped. I’ve had athletes who are high level that just didn’t put in the work. With Avery, you’ve got to slow him down because he’s not one to slow himself down. He’s been an incredible role model for our kids and just a very good leader. We’re going to miss his leadership. Avery handles that role very well, he feels a responsibility to his team and he just does his best to help the team any way he can."

Coach's comment

“How he operates is, ‘Hey, I’m the undersized guy. I’m the underdog. I’m going to put in the work. I’m going to be tougher. I’m going to outwork kids.’ And he does,” Andale coach Dylan Schmidt said. “That’s what I just loved about him. It’s so impressive some of the things he does on film. He gets it done and he just finds a way. You’ll think, ‘Wow, he’s going to go up against some guy who’s 6-foot, 270, and by the end of the game he’s running him into his back and just kicking his butt all over the field. But the thing that stands out more than anything is his toughness.”

“From a football standpoint, he’s just tough,” Andale coach Dylan Schmidt said. “Some of his hits and some of the things he does, you’re going, ‘Wow.’ But it just becomes routine and you take it for granted. For our fullback position, you better like running into guys. He does it all the time and you just think that’s how it is. We’ve been spoiled in that sense and obviously we’re going to miss him.”

“With everything we’ve already done, what stood out was the way they handled the pressure and the way they went to work. That’s the challenge when you get on these runs. People start thinking, ‘I don’t have to do that. I don’t have to operate the way I have in the past. I’m good.’ I was just pleased with how our kids kind of attacked the process every day.”
