Submitted Men's Swimming and Diving 2/16/2022 12:04:00 PM Mac Moore, KSHSAA Covered East/Southeast Kansas swimming standouts: Piper wins Independent League Championships Piper won the Independent League Championships in boys swimming with a score of 425, beating out the Osawatomie/Paola/Louisburg team in runner-up at 388 and Fort Scott in third place at 219. Piper won two of the three relay events, and nearly won the third as well. 200-yard freestyle relay team of Lukas England, Jonah Utter, Devin Berry and Austin White took first with a time of 1:40.93. Seth Briggs, England, Jake Huisman and Ian Hein took first in the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 3:42.65. Huisman, Hein, White and Briggs held a sizable advantage over the 200-yard medley relay field with a seed time of 1:47.03, but the team got a disqualification going into the final leg with an 8 second lead. Fort Scott's Alex Troth, Bobby Kemmerer, Nathan Stanley and Danny Kemmerer took first with a time of 1:55.93. Huisman took first in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly. He finished with a time of 2:20.59 in the 200 medley and 59.69 in the 100 fly, holding off runner-up Sam Johnson of Paola at 59.86. White added an individual gold in the 500-yard freestyle, earning a time of 5:56.07. Luke Hebert of Osawatomie stuck with White for the first 300 yards, but White pulled away late. Hebert took runner-up with a time of 6:00.39. White also took runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.80, finishing behind Fort Scott's Bobby Kemmerer at 23.09. Ian Hein won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.28. Hein also took runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.33, finishing behind Bobby Kemmerer at 52.74. Fort Scott's Nate Troth won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:07.60, putting a gap in the final 50 yards to beat out runner-up Hebert at 2:09.61. John Barger of Bonner Springs won the 100-yard backstroke. Barger's time of 1:03.38 made for a sizable advantage over the runner-up with Brayton Brueggen of Louisburg taking second with 1:06.17.
