20 CLASS 6A VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS TO WATCH IN 2023
Olathe South's Sara Allmon
SARA ALLMON, OLATHE SOUTH
Allmon earned All-Sunflower League second-team honors last season. The senior hitter led a Falcons team that went 16-13 last year before a sub-state opening round loss against state qualifier Blue Valley West.
Washburn Rural's Zoe Canfield
ZOE CANFIELD WASHBURN RURAL
A University of Kansas commit in basketball, Canfield has starred on the volleyball court as well, helping the Junior Blues to the Class 6A state championship last year. Rural’s primary setter, Canfield finished last season with 1,016 assists, pushing her to third on Rural’s career assist chart. She also added 172 digs and served up 46 aces, earning first-team All-County and Centennial League honors and honorable mention All-Class 6A honors. Canfield is coming off a knee injury that cut short her junior basketball season, but is healthy for her fourth year as a starter and ready to lead Rural back to the state tournament.
Blue Valley West's Ella Davidson
ELLA DAVIDSON, BLUE VALLEY WEST
Davidson earned All-Eastern Kansas League second-team honors last season. The junior hitter led Blue Valley West with 299 kills and 3.0 kills per set. She massively improved in the category from her freshman year numbers of 110 kills and 1.4 kills per set, although her block numbers showed the opposite trend. She went from 57 in 2021 to just 27 last year, although her team was fine with that as junior Alex Myers more than made up for that with her 60 blocks, pairing with junior Allison Heck’s 68. Davidson was one of six Jaguars with at least 100 digs with her 116 last year. She also chipped in 15 aces, 18 assists and 217 serves received.
Mill Valley's Ella Florez
ELLA FLOREZ, MILL VALLEY
Florez earned All-State second-team and All-Sunflower League first-team honors last season. The sophomore setter led the team in assists at 450 during her first high school campaign, pairing well with senior setter Ava Jones, who had 437 assists. Florez came up big in numerous other categories as well. She finished second on the team in kills at 210, aces at 34 and digs at 236. Her 72 total blocks were third on the team.
Derby's Addy Foster
ADDY FOSTER, DERBY
Foster’s vocal leadership helped her earn All-Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail Division I first-team honors at libero last season, when she surpassed 1,000 career digs while heading the Panthers’ defense. Foster enters her senior season with 1,190 digs. She also led the team in serve receive, service aces and serving percentage. “She does an excellent job of leading the defense and knowing what is going on on the other side of the net,” Derby coach Shelby Kraus says.
Blue Valley North's Janelle Green
JANELLE GREEN, BLUE VALLEY NORTH
Green earned All-State and All-EKL first-team honors last season. The senior setter crossed the 500 assist threshold for the second straight season with a team-high 564 and 6.6 assists per set. She also found herself in the top four on the team in a number of categories, including kills at 126, aces at 28, digs at 237 and total blocks at 47. Green also led the team in solo blocks at 10.
Garden City's Piper Harris
PIPER HARRIS, GARDEN CITY
After quickly establishing herself as one of the top players in the Western Athletic Conference as a freshman in 2021, Harris followed it up with an impressive sophomore campaign, earning first-team all-conference honors for the second straight year.
The outside hitter recorded 321 kills, 27 aces, 250 digs and 420 receptions last season. She has 612 kills and 411 digs in her career. The Buffaloes finished 23-15 in 2022, an eight-win improvement from 2021.
Olathe Northwest's Jillian Huckabey
JILLIAN HUCKABEY, OLATHE NORTHWEST
Huckabey earned All-State second-team and All-Sunflower League first-team honors last season. The senior led the team in assists with 455 while landing in the top four for three other categories. Her 257 kills was second on the team behind only fellow senior Skyler Pierce. Huckabey enters this season with 115 career aces.
Washburn Rural's Jada Ingram
JADA INGRAM, WASHBURN RURAL
Ingram has been a force in the middle for Rural in her first three years as a starter and already ranks eighth in career blocks for the Junior Blues. Last year she racked up 55 blocks to go along with 307 kills, which ranked third on the team. With the graduation of leading hitters Brooklyn DeLeye and Taylor Russell, Ingram will become an even bigger focus on Rural’s attack this season and will hit from all three spots along the net. Ingram earned first-team All-Centennial League and Shawnee County honors and was second-team All-Class 6A last season.
Mill Valley's Saida Jacobs
SAIDA JACOBS, MILL VALLEY
Jacobs earned All-State honorable mention and All-Sunflower League first-team honors last season. The junior middle hitter went triple digits in total blocks with a team-high 106, including 15 solo. She was also one of five Jaguars in triple digits for kills with her 183.
Shawnee Mission Northwest's Liv Martin
LIV MARTIN, SHAWNEE MISSION NORTHWEST
Martin earned All-Sunflower League second-team honors last season. The senior middle hitter led the team in total blocks with 81, but she’ll get a chance to lead the way in more categories this season. Her 175 kills were third on the team behind two players who graduated in Elinor Engel and Vix Vilott. Martin also had 18 aces last season.

RYAN MCALEER, BLUE VALLEY
McAleer earned All-State and All-EKL first-team honors last season. The senior libero has led the Tigers in digs and serves received each of the past two seasons. She finished with 410 digs and 408 serves received. Her gritty effort keeps the ball in play for a Blue Valley team with lots of returners this fall.
Blue Valley North's Jenna McClure
JENNA MCCLURE, BLUE VALLEY NORTH
McClure earned All-State honorable mention and All-EKL second-team honors last season. The junior hitter and defensive specialist tied Logan Parks for most aces on the team at 37 while her 249 kills only trailed Parks. She also finished second in serves received with her 533 only trailing now-graduated Nora Carlsen, and third on the team in digs at 216.
Wichita Northwest's Nina Mitchell
NINA MITCHELL, WICHITA NORTHWEST
Mitchell helped Northwest earn its third consecutive Class 6A state tournament berth and second straight Greater Wichita Athletic League title last fall by racking up 177 kills with a .326 hitting percentage. She also had nine solo blocks and 55 block assists while earning All-GWAL first-team recognition. The 6-foot-2 senior will play the middle and right side, and use her experience at the high school and club levels to provide leadership for the Grizzlies.
Blue Valley North's Logan Parks
LOGAN PARKS, BLUE VALLEY NORTH
Parks earned All-State and All-EKL first-team honors last season. The junior hitter and setter led the team with 409 kills while tying with junior Jenna McClure for most aces at 37. She also delivered 47 total blocks, 184 digs and 274 assists, which was second on the team behind Janelle Green. Parks already has 733 kills through her first two high school seasons, meaning a similar pace to her 4.8 kills per set last season should put her well over 1,000 midway through this year’s campaign.
Olathe Northwest's Skyler Pierce
SKYLER PIERCE, OLATHE NORTHWEST
Pierce earned All-State and All-Sunflower League first-team honors last season. The 6-foot-2 senior outside hitter led the team with 488 kills while also delivering 44 total blocks, 248 digs, 44 aces and 293 serves received. For her career, Pierce has racked up 1,297 kills with an average of 5.0 kills per set and has 130 aces across three seasons. She was also an alternate on the USA Volleyball U-19 team which won the gold medal in the FIVB Girls U-19 World Championship on August 11 in Osijek, Croatia. In addition, Pierce has been a part of the 2020 USA Volleyball High Performance Girls Youth A2 Team and the 2022 Girls U-19 National Training Team.
Dodge City's Easha Potts
EASHA POTTS, DODGE CITY
Potts was the Red Demons’ top hitter last year. The middle hitter was a second-team All-Western Athletic Conference selection as a junior. She delivered 183 kills and 28 blocks in 2022. Potts is also an all-conference basketball player. The Red Demons will look to take a big step forward and improve from a five-win season last year.
Olathe Northwest's Emmy Sher
EMMY SHER, OLATHE NORTHWEST
Sher earned All-Sunflower League first-team honors last season. The senior libero delivered team-highs in aces at 46, digs at 306 and serves received at 531. She also had 94 assists, nearly giving the Ravens a fourth player in triple digits for that category, to go along with Jillian Huckabey, Addisen Horn and Katie McCormick. Sher enters her senior season with 112 aces in her high school career.
Olathe East's Chloe Tyrrell
CHLOE TYRRELL, OLATHE EAST
Tyrell earned All-Sunflower League first-team honors last season. The senior hitter led her team in kills for the second straight season with 320 and 3.7 kills per set. Her 264 digs trailed only junior libero Kate Wright by just 10 for the team high. She also had the second most serves received at 461 and chipped in 28 aces and 27 total blocks.
Blue Valley West's Lily Wedman
LILY WEDMAN, BLUE VALLEY WEST
Wedman earned All-State second-team and All-EKL first-team honors last season. The junior setter led the team in aces with 39 and in assists with 902 and 9.0 assists per set. Her ability to set up her teammates led to a balanced distribution of kills with six Jaguars reaching triple digits in that category. Of course, that includes herself with 128 kills. Wedman also had 217 serves received and 26 total blocks. She enters this season with 1,927 career assists.
