Bishop Miege’s Lauren Lopez and Lebo’s Saige Hadley earned player of the year honors in their respective classes for the second straight year when the Kansas Volleyball Association released its All-State teams.
Lopez was named the Class 4A player of the year after leading Bishop Miege to its third straight state championship and 29
th in program history.
Hadley, meanwhile, was named the Class 1A Division II player of the year for the second straight season. After leading the Wolves to back-to-back state titles in 2022 and 2023, Lebo finished runner-up to Hanover this season.
Only two other players of the year came from state championship teams. Mill Valley junior setter Ella Florez was named the Class 6A player of the year after the Jaguars won their second straight championship. Jaguar coach Kylie Corneliusen was named the coach of the year in 6A.
In Class 1A Division I, Little River’s Arika Feldman followed former teammate Alaina Eck as the player of the year as the Redskins won their third straight state title. Redskins coach Kim Rolfs was named coach of the year for the third straight year.
St. James Academy’s Reese Messer was named the Class 5A player of the year after leading the Thunder to a third-place state finish. St. Thomas Aquinas’ Sarah Ikenberry was named coach of the year after the Saints won their second state title in three years, knocking off defending champion Seaman in the finals.
In Class 3A, Beloit’s Addison Budke, who moved to No. 2 on the state’s all-time kills list was named the player of the year while Halstead’s Diana Schutte was named the coach of the year after leading the Dragons to their first-ever state championship.
Valley Heights’ Ava Smith was named the player of the year in Class 2A after leading the Mustangs to a runner-up state finish. Maranatha’s Sam Soliday was named coach of the year after guiding the Eagles to their first state championship.
Clay Center’s Robert Moran was named coach of the year in Class 4A after leading the Tigers to the No. 1 seed at the state tournament. Hanover’s Melissa Holle was named Class 1A Division II coach of the year after leading the Wildcats to their third state championship in five years.
