Hayden's Lauren Borjon

LAUREN BORJON, HAYDEN

After helping Hayden capture the Class 4A team title in 2023, Borjon was the Wildcats’ top finisher at state last year as they repeated as Class 4A state champions. She opened the state tournament with a 76, putting her six shots off the individual lead and then posted a second-round 81 to finish third with a 157, 15 shots behind state champion Addison Douglass of Wamego and five shots behind runner-up Lilli Sympson of Winfield. Borjon had four rounds in the 70s on the season, including a 75 at the Centennial League meet to finish runner-up to Manhattan’s Maddie Myers. Borjon finished top 10 in nine of 10 meets and top five in four of them. A three-time state placer who finished 15th as a sophomore and 20th as a freshman, Borjon was second-team All-Class 4A last year.

McPherson's Andi Buschbom

ANDI BUSCHBOM, MCPHERSON

Like her senior classmate Brodie Kuhn, Buschbom has been a varsity player since her freshman year for McPherson, helping the Bullpups qualify as a team for state in two of her three seasons. Buschbom earned her first individual state medal last season, tying for 12th with rounds of 89 and 82 at Hesston. It also helped the Bullpups secure a third-place finish and their first state team trophy. Buschbom also carded a 77 to finish third in the McPherson regional at Turkey Creek. She earned All-Class 4A second-team honors after posting an 81 stroke average, which ranked sixth in 4A.

Augusta's Kaylee Cox

KAYLEE COX, AUGUSTA

One of four underclassmen on the Orioles’ 2024 state team, Cox led Augusta with a seventh-place individual finish in Class 4A, posting scores of 84 and 77 at Hesston. That came on the heels of Cox’s second-place finish at the Coffeyville regional, when she shot an 86 to finish four shots behind medalist Lilli Sympson of Winfield. Cox also posted scores in the 70s in two other tournaments last fall. Now a junior, Cox earned All-4A honorable mention last season after boosting Augusta to a regional runner-up finish and fourth-place showing at state. She tied for 21st at state as a freshman, missing an individual medal by one stroke.

18043
Wellington's Presley Cornejo

PRESLEY CORNEJO, WELLINGTON

Wellington has inched closer to the Class 4A girls golf summit each of the last three seasons and Cornejo, a senior, has done so on an individual level as well. After tying for 43rd at state as a freshman and finishing 26th as a sophomore, Cornejo cracked the top 20 last October at Hesston, claiming the final individual medal spot with her 181 total. Cornejo, who earned All-4A honorable mention after posting an 89.1 stroke average, led Wellington to the Ulysses regional title with her third-place finish. She also finished fourth last season at the Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail III-IV tournament as the Crusaders captured their third consecutive title.

18036
Wamego's Lillian Costa

LILLIAN COSTA, WAMEGO

Costa made a huge jump from her freshman to sophomore year to help keep Wamego as one of the top teams in Class 4A, though the Red Raiders missed out on qualifying for state as a team after being in the toughest regional in the state. Costa did qualify individually and wound up placing 24th with a two-day total of 187. After having only one 18-hole round below 100 as a freshman, Costa not only stayed under that threshold all season last year but dipped into the 80s on three occasions, including a career-best 82 to tie for third at the Tonganoxie Invitational. That topped the 84 she opened the season with at the 4A State Preview meet at Hesston Golf Course where she finished 11th. Costa earned honorable mention All-Class 4A honors.

13843
Wamego's Addison Douglass

ADDISON DOUGLASS, WAMEGO

Douglass is three-fourths of the way from joining the exclusive club of four-time girls state golf champions, something only three other golfers in state history have accomplished – Columbus’ Jill Simpson (1992-95), Blue Valley West’s Julia Misemer (2018-21) and Maize’s Kinslea Jones (2021-24). Douglass claimed her third straight Class 4A state title last year, shooting a 142 to finish 10 strokes ahead of Winfield’s Lilli Sympson. Douglass won her title as a sophomore by six shots after winning by 17 strokes as a freshman. A three-time first-team All-Class 4A selection, Douglass won seven tournament titles last year and now has 21 tournament victories in the 26 tournaments she’s played in during her career.

18049
Ottawa's Kathy Gillett

KATHY GILLETT, OTTAWA

Nothing like a state tournament to bring out the best in Gillett, who enjoyed her best rounds of the season at state, dipping below 90 for both rounds at the Class 4A state meet after not doing it once in an 18-hole tournament during the regular season. Gillett shot a career-best 85 on the first day of state and then followed with an 88 on Day 2 to finish at 173 and tied for 14th. It was a significant turnaround from shooting a 103 at regionals. Gillett was the Frontier League runner-up to Baldwin’s Peyton Wright and tied for low honors at the Santa Fe Trail Invitational with Wright and Trail’s Bailey Anshutz after all shot 40s in the 9-hole tourney. Gillett had two other top-five finishes. She also qualified for state in 2023 and placed 40th.

18045
Wellington's Claire Ginter

CLAIRE GINTER, WELLINGTON

Ginter enters her senior season as a two-time state medal winner who has helped Wellington finish fourth, third and second in Class 4A during her career. A three-time All-4A performer – first team in 2022, honorable mention in 2023 and second team in 2024 – Ginter shares the Crusader school record for low round in relation to par with classmate Taryn Viramontes – a 3-over 74 at Hutchinson’s Carey Park. An individual regional champion as a freshman, Ginter placed 16th at state as a freshman, 21st as a sophomore and 14th last October, when the Crusaders finished 15 shots behind champion Hayden. Ginter, who posted an 83 stroke average last fall, is a three-time, top-five finisher at regionals and Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail III-IV league tournaments.

18044
Hayden's Izzy Glotzbach

IZZY GLOTZBACH, HAYDEN

The top finisher at state for Hayden’s 2023 Class 4A championship team, Glotzbach was once again a leading figure as the Wildcats repeated as 4A champions last fall. After finishing tied for ninth in 2023 with a 161 total, Glotzbach tied for 12th at state last year with a two-day total of 171. Glotzbach tied for low honors at two meets last year, shooting an 82 to tie teammate Addyson Baer at the Basehor-Linwood Invitational and a 76 to tie Reece Randall of Washburn Rural at the Seaman Invitational. Glotzbach, who also was a placer in doubles at the Class 4A state tennis tournament but won't play tennis this fall, posted six top-10 finishes and three top threes in 10 tourneys last year and earned second-team All-Class 4A honors.

18038
Eudora's Marleigh Grant

MARLEIGH GRANT, EUDORA

Grant saved her best for the last a year ago, posting the best rounds of her career at the Class 4A state tournament. She opened with an 85 that topped her previous tournament best by two shots and then matched that score on the second day at state to finish with a two-day total of 170, good enough for an 11th-place showing. Grant had top-five finishes in half of her eight events last year and finished in the top 10 in another. She finished with a scoring average of 90 and her top finish was a runner-up showing to teammate Brooklyn Akers at the turner Invitational. Akers also returns this year after having five top 10s and two top fives last year, just missing out on a state medal with a tie for 26th at state.

18048
Chanute's Delaney Hastings

DELANEY HASTINGS, CHANUTE

Hastings has qualified for state each of her first three seasons but last year was the first year she advanced to the second day of the state tournament. She just missed the cut as a freshman and then found herself just on the wrong side of the cutline again as a sophomore. Last year, Hastings didn’t have to sweat it out, shooting a 90 on the first day of the state tourney to safely advance to the second day. She improved by four shots on the second day to finish at 176 that earned Hastings her first state medal as she tied for 18th with Southeast Kansas League rival Violet Robins of Independence. The 86 at state was just the third round in the 80s in her career and second of last season, the other coming at the SEK League Tournament where she finished third, one shot behind Robins and Coffeyville’s Jessica Zimmerman, and led the Blue Comets to the team title.

18051
McPherson's Brodie Kuhn

BRODIE KUHN, MCPHERSON

Kuhn was a foundational piece for the Bullpups three years ago, helping McPherson qualify for the Class 4A state tournament in its first year as a program. Now she’s a two-time All-4A first-team performer after leading the Bullpups to a third-place team finish last October at Hesston Golf Course. Kuhn’s rounds of 78 and 81 helped McPherson edge Augusta by two shots for the final trophy spot. She finished solo fifth after tying for fifth in 4A as a sophomore at Salina Municipal and 13th in her 2022 state debut at Emporia. Another highlight in Kuhn’s 2024 season came at McPherson’s home regional, when she fired a career-best, 2-under 69 to earn medalist honors as the Bullpups matched Hayden’s 326 team total. Kuhn’s 77 stroke average last season marked a five-shot improvement from her 2023 season and ranked second in 4A.

18052
Bishop Miege's Ashley Myers

ASHLEY MYERS, BISHOP MIEGE

Myers has been a fixture in the top 10 at the Class 4A state tournament for each of her first three seasons at Miege. She tied for 10th as a freshman, moved up a spot to a tie for ninth as a sophomore and then last year found herself in the mix for the individual title before settling for a fourth-place finish. Myers posted an 80 on the first day of state, putting her 10 shots behind Wamego’s Addison Douglass, and then shot a 78 on Day 2 but finished 16 shots behind Douglass, who won her third straight state title. Myers is one of the few golfers in 4A to actually beat Douglass at a tournament, winning a regional title her freshman year. Myers was a regional runner-up last year and third at regionals as a sophomore. She earned second-team All-Class 4A honors and should be one of the top challengers to Douglass this season.

18041
Concordia's Mya Niehues

MYA NIEHUES, CONCORDIA

Niehues is two-for-two in her career in finishing in the top 10 at the Class 4A state tournament. As a freshman in 2023, Niehues finished eighth, shooting a 76 on the final day to vault her into the top 10. She couldn’t crack 80 at state last year, but carded rounds of 81 and 84 to finish at 165 and take 10th. Nieuhues had six rounds in the 70s last year, setting a career low with a 72 at the Salina Central Invitational and then matching it with a 72 at the Buhler Invitational. She picked up her lone win at the Panthers’ home meet with a 79 that was 30 shots better than the field and also tied Class 3-2-1A state champion Amelia Bowles for low honors at the TMP-Marian Invitational, finishing the season with eight top-five showings on her way to being a first-team All-Class 4A pick. Niehues has enjoyed success on the summer circuit the past two years, winning the Central Links Tour Championship each of the past two summers and placing 10th in the Kansas Women's Amateur Junior Division.

18039
Buhler's Anika Paulsrud

ANIKA PAULSRUD, BUHLER

Paulsrud capped a solid freshman season in 2024 with a final-round 77 in the Class 4A state tournament at Hesston to vault into ninth place and led a young Crusader team to a fifth-place team finish. A Hutchinson Trinity student who competes with Buhler through a co-op, Paulsrud was one of two 4A freshmen in the top 30. Teammate Addison Specht, who tied for 29th, was the other. An All-4A first-team selection, Paulsrud shot a personal-best 72 at McPherson’s Turkey Creek, where she also carded an 80 to finish sixth at regionals. She completed her summer by winning the Hutchinson Junior Championship title.

18035
Independence's Violet Robins

VIOLET ROBINS, INDEPENDENCE

After helping Independence qualify for the Class 4A state tournament as a team in 2022 and 2023, Robins was the Bulldogs’ lone state qualifier last year and made the most of her appearance. Coming off a 28th-place finish as a sophomore in 2023, Robins moved into the top 20 last year, tying for 18th with fellow Southeast Kansas League rival Delaney Hastings of Chanute after both finished with 176 two-day totals. Robins shot an 86 on the first day of state that was just off her career best of 83, which she shot at the Coffeyville Invitational -- one of her three tournament victories last fall. Robins shared low honors at the SEK League meet with Coffeyville’s Jessica Zimmerman, each shooting 86s with Robins taking the league title on the second playoff hole. Robins had six rounds in the 80s last year after only having one in her first two seasons combined. She tied for second at her 4A regional and was second at the Pittsburg Invitational, earning honorable mention All-Class 4A honors.

13844
Winfield's Lilli Sympson

LILLI SYMPSON, WINFIELD

Sympson enters her senior season as a three-time, top-10 finisher in Class 4A, posting a career-best second place to Wamego standout Addison Douglass last year at Hesston Golf Course. Sympson carded consecutive rounds of 76 for a 152 total, 10 shots behind Douglass, the three-time 4A champion. Sympson led Winfield back to the state tournament last October with her third career regional title, shooting an 82 to win by four shots at Coffeyville. The Vikings missed the Day 1 cut last year, but Sympson helped them to a fourth-place finish as a sophomore by finishing seventh with a 159 total. As a freshman, Sympson took ninth as Winfield finished second in the team race to Wamego. She earned All-4A first-team honors each of the last two years after landing a spot on the second team in 2022.

18047
Wellington's Taryn Viramontes

TARYN VIRAMONTES, WELLINGTON

Part of Wellington’s senior trio of returning state medalists, Viramontes backed up her third-place individual finish at the 2023 Class 4A tournament with a sixth-place effort last October at Hesston. That helped the Crusaders finish second in the team race behind Hayden. Viramontes, a varsity player since her freshman season, has three career victories and an 83 career stroke average. She earned All-4A first-team honors as a sophomore after shooting rounds of 79 and 74 at Salina Municipal. Her 3-over 73 last year on her home course earned her a share of the program’s record for low round in relation to par with teammate Claire Ginter. A second-team all-state last year, Viramontes is a two-time Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail III-IV runner-up and a three-time, top-five finisher at regionals.

18046
Baldwin's Peyton Wright

PEYTON WRIGHT, BALDWIN

The impetus behind Baldwin starting a girls golf program, Wright has delivered on the promise she showed upon her arrival in high school. After a strong freshman season that saw her finish as the Frontier League runner-up and place fifth at the Class 4A state tournament, Wright was nearly unbeatable as a sophomore. She captured titles at six tournaments during the regular season, including a league title, and then added a regional championship as well. After shooting a somewhat disappointing 84 in the first round of the state tournament, Wright rebounded with a 78 in the second round to finish at 162 and place eighth in Class 4A. Wright shot career-best 74s at both the Anderson County and Tonganoxie Invitationals and had five rounds total in the 70s, earning first-team All-Class 4A honors for the second straight year. She’s held a 75.1 scoring average this summer, winning four tournaments including the Kansas Optimist Junior qualifier.

18037
Coffeyville's Jessica Zimmerman

JESSICA ZIMMERMAN, COFFEYVILLE

Zimmerman is still seeking her first state medal, but has been on the cusp of earning one at each of the last two Class 4A state tournaments. She qualified as a freshman and placed 33rd with a 185 total and then last year climbed eight spots to 25th despite posting a higher total score (188). After not cracking 90 during her freshman campaign, Zimmerman dipped below that mark on three occasions last fall, posting season bests of 87 at the Southeast Kansas League meet, which tied her for low honors with Independence’s Violet Robins who won the title in a playoff, and also at her 4A regional, which placed her fourth. Zimmerman and Robins also shared low honors at the Independence Invitational with 90s and she also was runner-up at the Parsons Invitational and third at the Pittsburg Invitational.
