10 Gymnasts to Watch in 2024 8/24/2024 12:00:00 PM By: Mac Moore, KSHSAA Covered Lawrence's Provi Fowler PROVI FOWLER, LAWRENCE Fowler helped Lawrence reach a state runner-up finish last year, earning the team’s first trophy since also taking second in 2018 and tying its best finish since winning the state title in 2006. Fowler finished 18th in the all-around with a score of 33.175. Her highest single event finish was taking 14th in floor with 8.775, followed by a 16th-place finish for beam with 8.600. Returning for her senior campaign, Fowler will lead a Lions squad looking to replace three seniors from last year. Olathe West's Ilyse Haynes ILYSE HAYNES, OLATHE WEST The Owls secured the 11th through 14th places in all-around at last year’s state meet. Haynes finished in the last of those spots with her 33.600 score, but she is the only one of the three returners in that group who earned a state medal. Haynes took sixth in bars with a 8.250, while also finishing ninth in vault at 9.100. If she can move up the leaderboard of beam, 26th at 8.150, and floor, 35th at 8.100, Haynes could put herself into position for a great haul at state. Along with fellow juniors Kiera Chacon and Micah Vance, the Owls should be right in the middle of the team state title race as well. Olathe Northwest's Emmy Keller EMMY KELLER, OLATHE NORTHWEST Keller won the all-around state championship for the second straight season, delivering her career-best score of 38.100. Her dominant performance put her in position to potentially sweep every event, only to end up with one additional gold medal. Keller took first in bars with her 9.150 to finish double gold. She took runner-up in vault and floor while finishing third in beam. Keller earned a 9.700 in vault to tie the score of gold-medal performance from the previous season, which looked like it would be the same result until Shawnee Mission Northwest’s Kaia Givner landed a 9.750 on her final attempt in the final event rotation. Givner and Keller combined for three scores at or above 9.700 in the event over the last two years after only six competitors had previously hit that mark for that event in the history of the KSHSAA state meet. Keller will look to make history again as she sets her sights on winning all-around state title No. 3 and going for the sweep. If she pulls that off, Keller would join a list of just five other gymnasts to win all five gold medals at one state meet. Olathe North's Greer Moyer GREER MOYER, OLATHE NORTH Moyer returns from a junior season where she helped lead Olathe North to its third straight state title. Moyer, who has only been with team for the previous two seasons, improved from sophomore campaign in 2022 when she finished fifth in the all-around. She earned third in the all-around last year with a 35.575 score. She earned a medal in beam for the second straight season, moving up from fourth to a state runner-up finish. Moyer also took fourth in floor. With the graduation of Lindsey Ray and Hannah Jensen as the team’s other all-around medalists, Moyer will return as the senior leader for an Eagles squad needing to replenish the roster a bit. Olathe North's Olivia Noteboom OLIVIA NOTEBOOM, OLATHE NORTH Noteboom joined a stacked Olathe North roster last year as a freshman and still ended up playing a vital role in the team winning its third straight state title. Noteboom missed out earning a medal, but still finished eighth in the all-around. She also finished just outside of reaching the medal stand in three individual events. She took seventh in bars and floor while finishing ninth in beam. Her lowest finish was 13th in vault, which still ended up being a top three mark for the Eagles in that event. Olathe East's Lainey Palmer LAINEY PALMER, OLATHE EAST Palmer returns for her senior year looking to deliver Olathe East its top all-around performance for the third straight year. Palmer led the way for the Hawks with a ninth-place finish last year, as well as finishing a fourth in vault and fifth in bars. As a sophomore, Palmer finished seventh in all-around while earning a fourth-place medal in vault. Palmer earned her first state medal as a freshman when she finished in a three-person tie for sixth place in floor. She also took ninth in the all-around that year. Shawnee Mission East's Andi Prendiville ANDI PRENDIVILLE, SHAWNEE MISSION EAST Prendiville will return for her junior season looking to build upon her breakout season last year. She scored 35.875 to finish 10th in the all-around last year, thanks in large part to her score in vault. Prendiville ended up earning third in that event for the second straight year. She also took eighth in bars with a 8.175 and 10th in floor with a 9.025. If she can improve her score in beam, which she finished with a 8.100 to take 28th, Prendiville should be able to get herself on the medal stand for all-around this season. CLAIRE ROGERS, SHAWNEE MISSION EAST Rogers will compete for the Lancers for the first time as a senior after previously competing in club gymnastics. She is currently a Level 9 at Eagles Gymnastics and Dance Center in Kansas City, Missouri. With her joining Prendiville as a potential all-around medalist for the Lancers, Shawnee Mission East should be right in the middle of the team trophy race this season. Newton's Coe'lina Mosqueda COE'LINA MOSQUEDA, NEWTON Newton freshman Coe’lina Mosqueda landed in 22nd with her score of 32.275. Mosqueda had best single event finish for floor where she took 18th with a 8.600. She had another top-20 finish with her 8.450 for beam. Mosqueda had a strong showing of 8.700 in bars, only to finish 26th behind a crowded field of nine competitors who finished in the 8.750 to 8.850 range. If she can improve upon her 6.525 score in bars, which put in 30th, Mosqueda has a good shot of pushing herself into the top pack of the all-around during her sophomore campaign. Free State's Jane Cast JANE CAST, FREE STATE Cast returns for her sophomore campaign as the top all-around state finisher on this year’s team. With Elaina Zung and JoJo Warrior graduated, the Firebirds will lean on Cast and a pair of returning juniors. Cast finished 26th in the all-around with a score of 31.275. Her best individual events results were 21st-place finishes in vault with 8.800 and floor with 8.550. She also took 23rd in beam with 8.225. She’ll look to improve her 5.700 bars score to help elevate her all-around score at second state outing this year.Print Friendly Version
