GYMNASTS TO WATCH IN 2025

Olathe Northwest's Sophia Beaumont

SOPHIA BEAUMONT, OLATHE NORTHWEST

A newcomer to the high school scene, Beaumont came in with a strong club pedigree and was going to be a challenger for the all-around title that Northwest teammate Emmy Keller had won the past two seasons. In no way, however, could anyone have predicted just how dominant Beaumont would be at the state meet. Beaumont became the first gymnast in state history to record a perfect 10 score in an individual event and did it not just once, but twice. Her 10s came on the vault and balance beam, earning her the state titles in those events. For good measure she also won titles in the uneven bars and floor exercise, tying the state meet record on the floor, and the clean sweep of the four events easily earned her the all-around state title. Beaumont’s all-around score of 39.350 was more than 1.5 points ahead of runner-up Greer Moyer of Olathe North and demolished the state meet record of 38.413 set by Olathe North’s Ella Margheim in 2021. Beaumont and the now-graduated Keller, who took third in the all-around, helped Northwest to a runner-up finish in the team standings.

Olathe North's Ariana Easter

ARIANA EASTER, OLATHE NORTH

Easter finally got her shot in North’s varsity lineup last year as a sophomore and was a huge contributor to the Eagles’ fourth straight team championship. A third-place finish on the balance beam with a season-best score of 9.80 highlighted a career-best all-around performance at the state meet as Easter posted a score of 37.025 and finished fifth in the all-around standings. She also finished sixth on both the vault and floor exercise. With the graduation of all-around state runner-up Greer Moyer, Easter is the highest returning all-around placer for the Eagles and will look to lead the team to a fifth straight title this fall.

Olathe North's Laila Haferland

LAILA HAFERLAND, OLATHE NORTH

One of North’s stellar sophomores a year ago along with Ariana Easter, Olivia Noteboom and Macie Ray, Haferland did her part in helping the Eagles claim their fourth straight team championship. Haferland’s specialty is the uneven bars and she posted a career-best score of 9.025 at state finish fourth in the event – tops among the Eagles. She just missed a medal on the balance beam, taking eighth with a 9.475, but she made the top 10 in the all-around, placing 10th with a 35.725. She’ll be a key contributor as the Eagles go for a fifth straight crown and could jump into the mix for a top-six all-around finish with improvement on the vault, where her career best is just an 8.500.

Olathe North's Olivia Noteboom

OLIVIA NOTEBOOM, OLATHE NORTH

Noteboom was another sophomore who made an impact for North last year as the Eagles maintained their stranglehold on the team championship, winning their fourth straight. North was dominating on the balance beam and Noteboom was part of it, placing fourth with a score of 9.750, just .050 behind fellow sophomore teammate Ariana Easter. She was just shy of claiming medals in the other three events, taking seventh on the floor exercise, just .025 away from sixth, and ninth on the uneven bars and vault. She finished with a career-best all-around score of 36.675 and placed eighth. Noteboom also was a starter on North’s 2023 title team as a freshman.

Shawnee Mission East's Ani Prendiville

ANDI PRENDIVILLE, SHAWNEE MISSION EAST

Prendiville was one of two Lancers who were able to prevent an all-Olathe sweep of every medal at last year’s state meet, teaming with Claire Rogers to claim a combined seven medals with both placing top six in the all-around. Prendiville’s state showing was highlighted by a runner-up finish on the vault. Though her score of 9.875 would have won her the state championship in every other year the state meet has been held, it came the same year Olathe Northwest’s Sophia Beaumont recorded the first perfect 10 in state history, relegating Prendiville to second. She also placed seventh on the uneven bars, 11th on the balance beam and 12th on the floor exercise, finishing with an all-around score of 36.800 to place sixth overall. She and Rogers, fourth in the all-around, helped East to a third-place team finish.

Olathe North's Macie Ray

MACIE RAY, OLATHE NORTH

Ray only competed in two events at the state meet, but did her part to help North capture its fourth straight team championship. Her specialty is the balance beam and at state she posted a career-best score of 9.525 to earn a medal with a sixth-place finish. She also competed on the floor exercise and just missed a medal there as well, placing eighth with a season-best 9.225. With North losing senior Greer Moyer, Ray may add more events to her state repertoire this year to help the Eagles extend their title streak to five straight.

Olathe East's Kailynn Sparks

KAILYNN SPARKS, OLATHE EAST

Sparks was East’s lone state placer a year ago, finishing fifth on the floor exercise with a career-best score of 9.625. She narrowly missed another medal on the vault with a 9.300 just .75 away from sixth, putting her seventh, and a somewhat off day on the balance beam put her 10th in that event, scoring a 9.350 which was well shy of her career best of 9.750, which would have placed her fourth. Sparks finished just out of the top six in the all-around as well, taking seventh with a score of 36.700, .10 behind Shawnee Mission East’s Andi Prendiville for the final medal. Sparks led East to a fourth-place team finish as the Hawks just missed out on a team trophy.
